What we do...
We deal with a wide range of work that enables private tenants, homeowners and council tenants to improve their housing conditions and maintain independence in their own home.
Independence; Prevention; Support; Enabling are constant themes that run alongside all of the services we provide.
The Team manage a range of services…
Private Housing Service
- Ensuring minimum property standards are met for private tenants
- Enforcement of housing standards.
- Inspection of Houses in Multiple Occupation e.g. bedsits, shared housing.
- General housing advice.
- Independent Energy advice for private residents.
Adaptation Service
- Manage the installation of major adaptations for all residents Administration of the adaptation contract, for all council tenants.
- Administration of the private sector adaptation policies and procedures.
- Monitoring and reviewing local adaptation policies and procedures.
- Managing the Accessible Housing Register i.e. matching clients’ needs to the right property.
- Provision of Disabled Facilities Grants for private owners.
- Administration of the council’s Medical Priority Service.
- Move on Scheme for disabled people who wish to move to a property that better suits their needs.

We have a shared housing reception area on the ground floor of the
civic offices, Grays. Please ask the main civic offices reception area
for directions to it.
Please Note:
Our officers spend most of the time out in the district
undertaking visits. Should you wish to speak to a particular
member of staff, or want immediate advice of a technical
nature, it is advisable to telephone before 10.00 a.m.
If visiting it is advisable to ring and make an appointment.
