TRUST aims and objectives

 

The aims of TRUST are:

  • To promote racial unity in the unitary district of Thurrock and Thames Gateway by tackling discrimination, conflict and harassment in all sectors and agencies in the community.

 

  • Our work includes:

 Maximising the effectiveness of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2001 Thurrock Equality Partnerships, Safer Thurrock Partnership and Networks

  • Working with the Private Sector
  • Working with the Criminal Justice system in Thurrock
  • The development of positive & independent multi-cultural projects for young people and families
  • Working with the Learning Skills Council

Working with the East of England Development Agency & Regional BME Network to develop appropriate projects which monitor racial incidents and offer support to anyone seeking advice, advocacy or representation over a racial incident

 

 Our work focuses on:

  • Advice and assistance to victims of racial harassment and discrimination Representation through other agencies such as 
  • Racial Incident Panel and Hate Crime Panel Multi Agency Working with The Crown Prosecution Service and Safer Thurrock Partnership to increase the effectiveness of individual organisations within the local BME network

 

 In our work we will continue to:

  • Attend weekly outreach points
  • Review existing and identifying other outreach points Produce quarterly newsletters for outreach, information sharing, workshop/events and advertising TRUST profile Sustain existing and develop new links with BME groups Identify and facilitate appropriate training to increase public awareness of racism and prejudice
  • Making effective use of the media Immigration and Asylum Seekers to highlight the positive contributions of minority ethnic communities in a successful and diverse Thurrock

 Objectives

 

  • Creating an information network to keep Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups informed of significant issues, policies and events at local, regional and national levels.
  • Supporting individuals and groups to develop and share skills and realise their potential.
  • Developing and strengthening local BME voluntary and community sector by facilitating training and workshops, and providing information.
  • Promoting a participatory platform to enable BME communities to have a collective voice and to raise awareness and influence policy makers, and service providers.
  • Tackle all forms of racism by supporting and advising individuals who suffer from racial incidents and by working with and influencing and advocating all statutory, public and private bodies to adopt and implement policies and procedures by mainstreaming racial equality and providing equally accessible and equal services.
