Youth Project Worker – Markus Donaldson

Hello to everyone online and in the further community. My name is Markus the Youth Project Worker here at TRUST.

Trust engages with young people aged between 13 – 21yrs of age, and up to 25 for those with disabilities.

This summer we have been busy securing funding for our TRUST In MUSIC project which is youth led and engages with the most at risk young people and groups in the borough.

Trust in music is a peer mentoring community programme that has been designed by young people, for young people. It uses the medium of music to connect and communicate a positive message to young people who at risk.

I have also been involved with the TRUST Football Club, who has been actively playing against different organisations including Grays Police and Social Workers in Thurrock. The football team was formed to help those BME young people who are either in care, isolated or had problems communicating with others the same age. It has been successful in supplying the young people with a place to not only get fit but meet others and feel safe as part of a team, which many do not get a chance to do. We plan to make the team official by affiliating them into a professional league for the appropriate age group in the near future.

If you need any more information on any of these projects, or ways to get involved please contact me

CDW Mental Health – Farhat Arif

Hello to all community members,

My name is Farhat Arif and I am a BME (Black Minority Ethnic) Community Development Worker for mental health. I work for REASON project based on two sites, Thurrock and Southend which will enable the team to cover the South East and South West of Essex.

The aim of our work is to focus on Black and Minority Ethnic community client groups and life domains cantered on spirituality, faith and cultural communities to improve access to mental health services for individuals aged 13+.

For this purpose we hold surgeries in the localities we serve, to provide an atmosphere for community members to speak about their health and mental health issues in confidentiality. We help in arranging interpreter services. We also invite guest speakers from various relevant organisations to talk to groups on a range of health subjects relating to positive mental health.

We promote healthy living and social inculcation to reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health and learning disabilities. The areas I work for are Grays, Chafford Hundred, Brentwood, Billericay and South Ockendon.

REASON is funded by South East Essex Primary Care Trust with the intention of breaking down barriers that may exist between ethnic minority communities and service provision.

Wish you all very good health and happy life
